The only way to know how much power is charged into and withdrawn from a battery in an independent system, is to install an Amp hour counter. 

It works as follows : via a shunt all charge and discharge current is measured in ampere per hour.  Charge current is added and discharge current subtracted.  Thus an accurate record of the amount of power into and drawn from the batteries is displayed. 

The amp hour counter is a must to check the efficiency of batteries and power delivered by wind chargers and solar panels over time. 

Even a new battery is only about 90 % efficient.  There will always be a positive balance on the counter. 

Keep record of ampere balance before reset.  This a clear indication of battery efficiency.

A rule of thumb is to charge 120 Amp for every 100 amp hours discharged.
